WASHINGTON- Pfizer Inc. is the world's largest drug company with annual sales of more than $1.7 billion, up 11% from $2.3 billion, the U. S. group said Thursday.
Pfizer's patent for Celebrex (celecoxib) expired in the United States in December, but the pharmaceutical giant's patent protection expired earlier this year. Pfizer is also the world's largest drug company with annual sales of more than $1.7 billion, the same group said in a report.
Pfizer is one of the world's biggest drug companies. Its revenue was 8% of worldwide sales in 2006. But Pfizer is the world's largest drug company, and the largest generic drug company.
Pfizer's sales grew 18% to $2.4 billion in the second quarter and 15% to $1.8 billion in the third.
Pfizer shares closed at $32.86 on the first Friday after closing, while the other three companies posted a profit of $1.08. In a report to investors Thursday, analysts at Lehman Brothers said earnings per share were up 0.5% to $11.37.
The market was dominated by a $2.2 billion Pfizer drug to treat arthritis pain and a $2.3 billion Pfizer-Aventis merger to improve its heart drug portfolio. Analysts said that a $2.4 billion deal would add $1.7 billion to Pfizer's earnings.
Pfizer's shares rose to $48.74 at $32.86 Thursday, as the combined company and Pfizer's joint venture in a $2.2 billion deal for a new drug portfolio, and the combined company, which will own and operate the combined company, had raised $1.2 billion in cash.
Pfizer's shares fell more than 7% to $38.75.

Section 355(b) (the "Section 355(b) definition")Pfizer's Celecoxib, a popular anti-inflammatory drug, rose sharply at the beginning of the year, after its generic version, a generic version of the drug, was approved by the FDA.
Celecoxib, the second drug to be made available on the market after Aleve, was also approved by the FDA earlier this year. It's a well-known brand name, with a reputation for high efficacy, long-lasting effectiveness and minimal side effects.
The FDA has long recognized that Celecoxib can cause side effects such as osteoporosis and rhabdomyolysis. These are more common than some people think, so the drug is often prescribed off-label to help treat these conditions. Celecoxib, however, is not a panacea.
The FDA had to delay the approval of Celecoxib because of concerns over safety. But Pfizer, the drug's maker, has said that the drug’s long-term safety will be better served by a lower price. The drug, however, is still available for cheaper than the original brand name.
In a to highlight Pfizer's, the company said, “It is not a magic pill for everyone. It is a heartburn drug and it is not a miracle drug for everyone.”
The drug, known generically as celecoxib, is also approved for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis and ankylosing spondylitis. It is also being sold as a muscle relaxer.
Pfizer's Celecoxib is still available in pill form, and there are no coupons for its use, so you can buy it as a pill and take it as needed.
Celecoxib, like other drugs for pain and inflammation, can cause side effects that doctors have not had before. Those include a headache, stomach upset and skin rashes. These are not the only side effects of celecoxib.
Other drugs for pain and inflammation may also cause side effects. The most common side effect is a headache and a stuffy nose, but this is rare. A few others include a stuffy bladder or throat, changes in vision, a feeling of heat, upset stomach or pain and nasal bleeding.
Celecoxib also can cause a rare but serious skin reaction called Stevens-Johnson Syndrome. It is a type of skin reaction that occurs when a person’s body is damaged by a drug.
People who have been taking Celecoxib for long enough to experience the side effects should see a doctor. They may be able to stop taking Celecoxib and get a prescription for Celebrex. The FDA has warned that this rare skin reaction is called Stevens-Johnson Syndrome.
If you are taking Celebrex, you should not take it unless you have a serious medical condition, such as a heart attack, stroke or liver problems. If you have any of these conditions, you should not take Celecoxib. In addition, if you have been taking Celebrex for a long time, you should talk to your doctor about taking Celebrex again.
If you experience any of the side effects mentioned above, stop taking Celecoxib and get emergency medical help right away. They could be severe or even life-threatening. If you have any of these serious side effects, stop taking Celecoxib and get immediate medical attention.
